Manager Jurgen Klopp claims that Virgil van Dijk, a Liverpool defender, will miss at least a month due to a muscle injury. As part of Klopp’s triple substitution, Van Dijk was replaced at halftime in Liverpool’s 3-1 loss to Brentford on Monday.

“Virgil was a significant blow and a surprise for us. Before Liverpool’s FA Cup third-round matchup with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, Klopp told reporters that “he didn’t feel a lot.”

The diagnosis was quite severe. Even though we’re talking about weeks rather than months, I hope it goes quickly. He finds it difficult, but in recent years he has participated in an incredible number of games.”

“At the very least, we can’t use him on the field. We’ll do that off the field.”

The manager was then asked if the injury was caused by wear and tear for a player who had barely played for club or country since his ACL injury.

“Since he played every one of the games he’s recuperating between the games,” he answered.

“He never mentioned anything about the muscle or had any problems with it. We didn’t change anything. In that instant, it was one too many sprints.

This weekend, Cody Gakpo, a new signing for Liverpool, will be available for the FA Cup match against Wolves. Before the end of January, they play in the Premier League against Brighton (A) and Chelsea (H), as well as Wolves (A), Everton (H), and Newcastle (A) before their Champions League last-16 match on February 21 against Real Madrid, where Van Dijk is vying for fitness.

With 28 points from 17 games, Liverpool is sixth in the Premier League.
