Wout Weghorst, a striker from the Netherlands, has been signed by Manchester United on loan from Burnley.

To fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United has signed Burnley’s Dutch striker Wout Weghorst on loan until the end of the season. Erik ten Hag, manager of Manchester United, was determined to bolster his attack after Cristiano Ronaldo left in November.

Weghorst, who was previously on loan at Besiktas in Turkey, will not be able to play Manchester City on Saturday in the English Premier League because he didn’t register in time. Weghorst made 18 appearances this season for the Turkish club and scored nine goals. He also scored twice for the Netherlands during the World Cup in Qatar last year.

John Murtough, United’s director of football, said on Friday, “Wout has a consistent goal-scoring record across several European leagues, and his attributes will add a further dimension to our squad.”

Weghorst stated, “I feel privileged to be joining Manchester United.”

“I’ve played for the club in the past, and now having the chance to don the famous red shirt is a fantastic feeling. I’ve seen how far United has come under Erik ten Hag, and I can’t wait to help the team achieve its goals.

“I can promise to give the club everything, no matter what happens in the next few months.”

Ten Hag wanted to add attacking players to help his team win a trophy and qualify for the Champions League in his first season in charge. After Ronaldo left, United only had Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial as senior strikers.

Weghorst made the move to Burnley from Wolfsburg in Germany for $15 million in January of last year. Burnley was relegated from the Premier League thanks to Wout’s two goals in 20 games.

Cody Gakpo, a Dutch forward, left United this month to join Liverpool, United’s rival team.
